Residents living in the vicinity of goat farms are at significantly higher risk of pneumonia than people who do not live close to a goat farm. According to the Health Council of the Netherlands, residents can be protected against this with measures that reduce emissions from goat barns and with minimum distance requirements for new goat farms or homes. This is the main conclusion from an advisory report that the council offered to the Ministers of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) and of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature (LVVN) today.
