It is not yet possible to reduce the dementia burden through early diagnosis. The available methods of early diagnosis, such as biomarker tests, are not reliable enough to be used widely in primary care settings. This is what the Health Council concludes in an advisory report published today. The council advises the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport to focus mainly on measures that can reduce the risk of dementia by targeting modifiable risk factors. This means strengthening existing measures to prevent other chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases.
