Flu shot for pregnant women protects infants

Newborns can be protected from serious complications of influenza by vaccinating the mother during pregnancy. The Health Council of the Netherlands therefore recommends that pregnant women be offered the annual flu shot. Pregnant women themselves also benefit from flu vaccination. In addition to pregnant women, the council recommends including several other groups in the National Influenza Prevention Programme.
