Long-term symptoms after COVID-19

Some COVID-19 patients will experience persistent symptoms. This is generally called long COVID or post-COVID syndrome. The Health Council has analysed the scientific literature available on the subject. This literature outlines the different symptoms patients may experience, which sometimes persist for months and may decrease over time. The currently available study reports still harbour much uncertainty. What is certain, however, is that post-COVID syndrome not only affects patients themselves, but will also affect the healthcare system. Additional research will be required to allow us to focus effectively on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of post-COVID syndrome. The Health Council also recommends raising awareness of post-COVID syndrome and thoroughly monitoring the care patients currently receive.
