1,2-Dibromoethane

The substance 1,2-dibromoethane is carcinogenic. People occupationally exposed by inhalation have an increased risk of cancer. The Minister of Social Affairs and Employment has set a maximum risk level of 4 extra cases of cancer per 1000 occupationally exposed people. According to an estimation of the Health Council, this risk corresponds to a concentration of 0.2 microgram 1,2-dibromoethane per cubic meter air, taking into account 40 years of occupational exposure. Not only inhalation exposure increases the risk, also skin exposure attributes to the cancer risk.
