Mental health of refugees

Participation promotes the mental health of refugees, but health is also of key importance in terms of opportunities for participation. Refugees suffer more often from mental disorders during the first few years after arrival than the general population. Caregivers and social workers should be prepared for this. At the same time there are various opportunities to cope with these problems. These opportunities can be implemented more effectively. This the Health Council of the Netherlands writes in an advisory report issued on 24 February 2016 to the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport.
