Tightening up on antibiotic use in animals

Out of concern about the development of bacterial resistance, in recent years the total veterinary use of antibiotics has been sharply reduced. Currently, however, that decline is leveling off and in some sectors (broilers) there is even an increase. Farms that make relative extensive use of these drugs and veterinarians that relatively often prescribe them, should be subjected to sharp scrutiny and should present proposals for improvement. Similar measures are required for sectors that are as yet unmonitored and for pets.
