The Health Council has revised the dietary reference values for fatty acids, fats, digestible carbohydrates and dietary fibre. Dietary reference values are reference values for the intake of nutrients. They define the intake levels that are considered beneficial for health, and are important for good nutritional advice by the Netherlands Nutrition Centre, dieticians and health care professionals. They are also used for monitoring the nutrient intake of the Dutch population.
The council has adopted the recommendations of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) for some of the subjects. For other subjects, the council recommends that more recent international reports be followed or – in some cases – that the current reference values be maintained.
This advisory report is part of the evaluation of the Dutch dietary reference values – a permanent task of the Health Council. This advisory report completes the ongoing evaluation.
