The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport asked the Health Council for advice on the use of clesrovimab within the immunisation programme against RSV (respiratory syncytial virus). The permanent committee on Vaccinations has considered this request.
Currently, infants are administered the monoclonal antibody nirsevimab for protection against lower respiratory tract infections caused by RSV. Recently, another monoclonal antibody was registered: clesrovimab.
According to the committee, clesrovimab, like nirsevimab, can be used within the immunisation programme against RSV. Clesrovimab is effective against serious illness and hospitalisation due to RSV infection in newborns and infants and causes hardly any side effects. On the basis of the available data on efficacy and safety, the committee cannot advise for either of the 2 antibodies.
