The Radboud University Medical Center and the University Medical Center Utrecht have applied for a permit for the 3rd measurement round in the so-called MARC study, a scientific study into the relationship between sport and coronary atherosclerosis. At the request of the ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, the Health Council’s committee on Population Screening has examined the permit application against the requirements of the Population Screening Act (WBO). The committee concludes that the research is scientifically valid and that the benefits outweigh the risks. The committee recommends granting the permit under the conditions that the data storage is limited to a maximum of 15 years and that the information provided to the participants is simplified with regards to the text on analyses with genetic material.
